My friend invited me to see a kabuki play at Meiji-za yesterday.
The plays were, 1. YA NO NE One of the great classics of the bombastic Aragoto style of acting. GORO is sharpening a gigantic arrow when in a dream he is alerted to his brother being in danger. He explodes in a burst of energy and rushes to save him.
2.OＴＯＫＯ NO HANAMICHI The skilled physician HABU GENSEKI once helped Onnagata* actor UTAEMON from becoming sightless. One day while on stage, UTAEMON gets the letter from the great benefactor GENSEKI, mentioning he suffers distress. (Onnagata means a male actor who plays female rolls in Kabuki.)
Ennosuke Ichikawa who was onnagata impressed me.
I was able to understand the detail during a kabuki play because I got Earphone-Guide for Japanese. After that I really enjoyed to see kabuki plays
