「Dear Ladies, At the end of each year ○○ and I enjoy reflecting on past years. The ladies who have visited our “Let’s Talk…English” group have been so interesting and fun. We hope you have enjoyed your conversations here as much as we have enjoyed getting to know you. This is the end of our eighth year – it is hard to believe. Because our attendance has declined the library is discontinuing this program. ○○ has been a faithful volunteer from the beginning – without her help we could not have continued. This does not mean you have to stay away from the library! We hope you will continue socializing with those you have met and also look for neighbors who may need encouragement to visit the library. We have always been and will continue to be a source of information for you. Please send me an email and tell me your favorite memory from the conversation group.
It has been great sharing life with you. Frequently people ask me about our group and what we talk about. I always say, no matter what country a woman is from she can always find something to talk about with another woman! Do stay in touch! Feel free to email me any time if you have questions and visit our website – www.○○ - for programs that may be of interest to you. June 5 is the last official meeting of “Let’s Talk…English” – it would be great to see you! Have a wonderful summer!」
「I want to make an announcement. I had a bad experience that I was about to be a victim of the scam.
I tried to buy Coach bags on the Internet online shop. I have used the outlet Coach online site twice before. After I got a letter from Coach Company, I always could access the address. But I was busy this time and so I accessed the site by searching for the words, " Coach, outlet, online".
This was an imitation. Because the site was completely copied, I did not notice it was a fake. And I put in my card number to buy from them.
After one week pasted, I checked my account. The shop did not send the bags and the view was " pending". Pending means it was resolved. I had doubts so I checked the details of the bill from the credit card company. Then there were two bills (payments) which I had not bought. The bill will demand payment next month. I told the details to the credit card company's staff and I did not want to pay.
This site was a false site. The staff told me the payment indicated you bought a Chinese Internet-related product. She could understand the situation and I did not need to pay it.
And I stopped my credit card afterwards and I changed it. The reason is they know my card number. Be careful about a fake site. We can distinguish if we know some check points. For example, “https”( plus “s”) is a safe site, and in front of the address , we can see the logotype.」
先生から 「Sakuramo, I am so sorry that this happened to you, but I am glad that you knew exactly what you needed to do. Thank you for writing to me about this scam. I printed your e-mail, and I'll bring it to class today.」
This scam is nicknamed the " emergency scam " or " grandparent scam," the fraud involves crooks phoning elderly people under the guise of one of their grandchildren. The crook persuades grandparent to send money but not tell other relatives.
I heard the news in the US “A local woman is out $5,000 after falling for the "grandparent scam" earlier this week. The Sunnieholme Drive resident told police she received a call Tuesday from a man who said he was her grandson. He told her he needed money after being arrested in Canada after drinking and crashing his car. " Connecticut Post, January 15, 2009 “ 「高齢の方が、孫がカナダで飲酒運転後に車をぶつけて逮捕されているのでお金が必要だからと、５０００ドルを騙し取られた。」
